Alaska Repeals Sales Tax Transaction Threshold
Effective January 1, 2025, the Alaska Remote Seller Sales Tax Commission will no longer use the number of transactions as a factor in determining economic nexus in the state. Remote sellers exceeding $100,000 in gross sales will need to register and remit sales tax to the Commission.
Previously, remote sellers had to meet both a gross sales threshold and a transaction threshold. The repeal of the transaction threshold means that fewer remote sellers will be required to register and collect Alaska sales tax.
However, remote sellers who were previously registered due to meeting the transaction threshold can choose to either cancel their registration or continue to collect and remit taxes until their registration is officially canceled.
